Ewa Polkowska was born on January 14th, 1962. She has acquired higher legal education - in 1985, she graduated from Warsaw University Faculty of Law and Administration. Subsequently Ms. Polkowska worked as articling judge at Warsaw Provincial Court and, in 1990, received a judge's certificate. For the past 15 years (since June 1st, 1991), Ms. Polkowska has held positions of responsibility at the Senate Chancellery Legislative Office (formerly Legal Office), working her way up from legislative officer to director. She has directed the Legislative Office since 1998.

From 2003, Ms. Polkowska has been lecturing at the National School of Public Administration to students of the legislative articling programme offered under the aegis of the Prime Minister's Chancellery. She is the founder and member of the board of Polskie Towarzystwo Legislacji (Polish Society for Legislation), which was established in 1996 and which groups legislative lawyers. Ms. Polkowska is married and has an 18-year-old son.
