Born on 19th March 1954 in Toruń.

In 1978, graduated in pedagogy from the Faculty of Humanities at "Mikołaj Kopernik" University in Toruń.

1978-1991 - academic teacher in the university's Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology. 2000-2001 - secretary of state in Prime Minister's Chancellery. 2001-2003 - president of BWB company; 2003-2004 - director of the Legnica branch of Dozorbud Grupa Polska company; 2004-2005 - general director of Centrum Wspierania Inicjatyw Pozarządowych (Centre for Support of Non-Governmental Initiatives) in Tarnów, currently - its member.

Member of the Solidarity Trade Union since 1980. 1981-1989 - edited underground press and belonged to Solidarity's leadership in Toruń region. 1989-1990 - member of the Presidium of Solidarity's Toruń Regional Board; between 1990 and 1998 - deputy chairman then chairman of Solidarity's Toruń Regional Board. 1990-1998 - member of Solidarity's National Commission. Participated in the work of the Trilateral Commission of Socio-Economic Affairs (1993-2000). Chairman of the social council of the Provincial Hospital in Toruń and secretary of the National Ecological Council of the "Environment Friendly" National Ecological Competition.

In the Third Term Sejm was deputy chairman of the Social Policy Committee and Special Committee for the Reform of the Social Insurance System. Member of the European Integration Committee. Member of the Polish delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. In the Sixth Term Senate was deputy chairman of the Agriculture and Environmental Protection Committee, member of the Legislation Committee and the Culture and Media Committee.

1996-2001 - member of the Social Movement of Solidarity Electoral Action. 2001-2002 - member of Stronnictwo Konserwatywno-Ludowe - Ruch Nowej Polski (a conservative political party).

Member of the Civic Platform Party of Poland and deputy chairman of its Kujawsko-Pomorskie regional board.

Married, has one child.
